Preparing for Fit Sessions with AI-Generated Tech Packs

How to prepare for garment fit sessions using AI-generated tech pack data — what to evaluate, how to document changes, and updating specs after fitting.

Fit session preparation

Fit sessions evaluate whether a physical sample matches the intended design and fit. Preparation involves reviewing the tech pack specifications, setting up measurement tools, and identifying the specific fit aspects to evaluate.

Print the tech pack measurement page and bring it to the fit session. You will compare every POM against the physical sample to identify specification compliance and needed adjustments.

What to evaluate during fit sessions

A structured fit evaluation checks:

  • Silhouette: overall shape matches design intent — proportions, ease, drape
  • Key measurements: chest, waist, hip, length, sleeve length — measure and compare to spec
  • Construction quality: seam quality, stitch consistency, finishing
  • Fabric hand: weight, drape, stretch behavior — matches specification intent
  • Details: pockets, closures, trims — correctly positioned and functional
  • Comfort: range of motion, ease through body, no binding or pulling

Documenting fit changes

Record every change needed during the fit session with specific measurements and directions. Not 'make it wider' but 'increase chest width by 0.75 inches' or 'lower pocket placement by 0.5 inches from current position.'

Photograph the sample on the fit model from front, back, and sides. Mark any changes with pins and photograph the pinned adjustments. These photos serve as visual references for the manufacturer alongside your written corrections.

Updating tech packs after fit sessions

After the fit session, update your tech pack with all approved changes. Use the AI chat to modify measurements, adjust construction notes, or change detail specifications.

Increment the revision number and note the changes. Send the updated tech pack PDF to your manufacturer with clear indication of what changed from the previous version.

Reducing fit sessions through better specs

Better initial specifications lead to better first samples, which reduces the number of fit sessions needed. AI-generated tech packs provide more complete specifications than typical manual tech packs, which translates to more accurate first samples.

The goal is not to eliminate fit sessions — they provide valuable physical evaluation that specifications alone cannot replace. The goal is to reduce the number of sessions by getting closer to the right fit on the first attempt.
